Opinions? Well the dictionary says “a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.”
Note the last bit. So I might know nothing at all, but here is a range of subjects upon which I have opinions. I’ll try and keep my opinions related to the world inside the drag world, but other subjects may slip into the discussions.
So the most popular subject seems to be ‘politically correct’. This is a phrase from the communist Russia revolution and it has evolved to mean to not give offence.
I hear everywhere “P.C.” used in a perjorative way, or to mock an idea or speaker. Attached to this is the implication of silence. (if you can’t be PC then don’t speak). although it is an admirable attempt to show how language can offend and in some cases, injure people.
When I was young, ‘poofter’ was the ‘non PC’ word that was heard everywhere. A bunch of clever people realised the power of words (especially hateful words) and so ‘gay’ was became the word.
In the drag world, here in Australia, we use the term ‘trannie’ (or ‘tranny’) for those on a gender journey. Now the PC term is ‘transgender’, but the abbreviation to ‘trannie’ is supposedly offensive and so it is NOT P.C.
In Sydney in the 1970’s the transsexual and transgendered performers in Les Girls referred to themselves as ‘trannies’.
