“a highly polished performance “
” pure unadulterated fun”
“Following their success last year with The Sound of Music Drag Show at the Melbourne Comedy and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, Drags Aloud have set their sights on Adelaide with their latest offering the Grease Lightnin’ Drag Show, after enjoying a 32 week run in a Melbourne in 2007.
Drawing its inspiration from the 1978 movie Grease that starred Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, the 6 member troupe parodies key cast members and musical numbers in a 60 minute show that is well paced and programmed.
While never taking itself seriously, the cast deliver a highly polished performance to the delight of the audience, throwing in a few unexpected musical diversions that include Hairspray and a medley of dance inspired tunes.
Written and directed by Jessica James (Sandy), she leads a stunning cast that features some of Melbourne’s most experienced drag performers including Amanda Monroe (Frenchy), Kris del Vayze (Danny), Miss Bunny, Christina Andrews & Linda Lamont.
The costuming is spectacular and the show presents a cavalcade of colour with a costume change for every number. The miming and choreography is spot on. Some scenes are a little risqué and the cameo appearances by the Rydell High Headmistress via video link is very amusing. The Grease Lightnin’ Drag Show is pure unadulterated fun with enough big hair and sparkle to bring out anyone’s inner drag.
